Union Air Freight is proud to be featured in the Job Redesign Playbook for Aviation, showcasing our journey to modernise the Billing Officer role and future-proof our operations. This was also highlighted in the keynote speech by Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of National Development and the Ministry of Transport, Ms Sun Xueling, at the International Air Transport Association-Singapore Air Cargo Agents Association Air Cargo Day.
Facing a highly manual, paper-based billing process, we recognised the need to transform how work was done. Through a structured job redesign approach, we introduced digital solutions such as e-filing, automated invoicing, and system notifications — reducing manual effort while improving accuracy and traceability.
Beyond technology, we focused on people. Flexible work arrangements, including partial remote access, and targeted training empowered our teams to adapt and grow. By implementing changes incrementally and fostering strong change management, we ensured smooth adoption across the organisation.
The results have been significant. Billing officers can now handle 25% more shipments monthly, with accuracy improved by up to 10%. Employees benefit from lighter workloads, enhanced digital skills, and greater job satisfaction, while customers experience faster turnaround times.
